Soldiers & TBI
Traumatic brain injury has been called the "signature injury" of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Experts estimate that as many as 20% of all U.S. troops serving in those zones will suffer at least a mild TBI while there. Because of the prevalence of IEDs -- improvised explosive devices -- such injuries occur on a daily basis.

The only positive aspect of these latest tragedies is that public attention and congressional interest are being focused on TBI and its long-term treatment as never before. As more experts work with this high-visibility group of patients with TBI, then perhaps all who suffer from it can benefit from the new research and care plans which evolve.
